Landing Zone On Sunday
July 6th at 17:10 hrs, Station 45 was requested to set up a landing zone
for MediVac in the area of 5
Structure Fire 16 Hampton ct On 5/20/2009 at 00:02 hrs Montgomery Stations 45, 46, along with Station 53 (Rocky Hill) , and Montgomery EMS were dispatched to 16 Hampton Ct for a reported structure fire with possible entrapment. Shortly After dispatch 45 C-5 (Lieutenant Spohn) arrived reporting heavy fire and smoke showing from the structure. Upon hearing the update Chief 45 requested a 2nd Alarm and Hillsborough EMS Rehab Unit. At 00:11 Chief 45 arrived assuming command and reported heavy fire through the roof of the alpha/delta side of the structure. First due engine 45-102 arrived shortly after and deployed a 2 ½ pre-connect and a 1 ¾ pre-connect. The crew on the 2 ½ made a rapid knock down of the exterior fire, while the other crew on the 1 ¾ prepared to enter the structure to search for victims and continue fire attack.. With the exterior fire knocked down the interior crew entered heavy fire load conditions performing initial search and an aggressive interior attack. In the mean time engine 53-1 had established water supply and Tower 45 was set up for future master stream operations. Crews were evacuated from the structure due to heavy fire developing on the Charlie side. After crews evacuated and were all accounted for Tower 45 was put into service as well as the initial 2 1/2 pre-connect knocking out the remaining fire in minutes. Crews immediately re-entered the structure continuing initial search and overhaul. All searches turned up negative. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutors Office. After extensive overhaul all units cleared the scene by 04:27hrs. Other units on scene included Hopewell Station 52, Hillsborough Station 37, and units on standby from Princeton Station 60, Hillsborough Station 38 and Kingston Station 39. Rich Karsay State Champion On April 10th 2009 in Miami, Ohio Ex-Chief Richard Karsay turned in an impressive time of 2:22.51 on The Scott Firefighter Challenge course. That time was the best time for any one from New Jersey for the 2009 season of the event earning Rich the State Championship! Congratulations Rich! We are proud of you!
____________________________________________________________________________________ Brush Fire Keeps Units Busy On Monday
March 23rd at 16:13 hours Montgomery Township Stations 45 an On March 16 at 17:10 hours Tanker 45-135 was requested to respond for a second alarm tanker task force assignment to 273 Cold Soil Road for a large barn on fire next to a structure. Once on scene tanker 45 assisted with 4 loads delivering 12,000 gallons of water to help extinguish the fire. Article on Hopewell Fire

At 0241hrs on 3/15/09 Somerset County Communications dispatched Station
45 (Montgomery #1) to a report of smoke in the area of 1743 Route 206.
Initial arriving units encountered heavy smoke showing from a restaurant
under construction. After a quick walk around of the structure the fire
was located in the basement. Command requested the first alarm be filled
out bringing Stations 46 (Montgomery #2) and 53 (Rocky Hill) to the
scene. Do to the ongoing demolition and construction of the building it
was previously labeled as unsafe for entry by the townships fire
prevention bureau, limiting the initial attack to an exterior operation.

introduced as the latest chief of Station 45 on February 7th at the
annual installation dinner. Alan Clark was also introduced as the
newest president of Station 45 and the fire company looks forward to
working with him to make 45 an even greater organization. The new line
was also installed, including Jeff Huxley as Deputy Chief, Kurt Ewans as
Battalion Chief, Rich Kennedy as Captain, Bill Spohn as 1st Lieutenant,
Kevin Schroeck as 2nd Lieutenant, Tom Karsay as Safety Officer, and Mike
OConnor as Engineer. Rob Jensen was honored for his service as chief
for the past four years during the dinner, along with Brian Voss for his
service as president for the past six years. These gentlemen exhibit
exemplary dedication and continue to serve within the fire company. A
good time was had by all. Fire o A car caught fire on Wednesday, February 4 in the attached garage of a home on High Ridge Road. Stations 45, 46, 53, as well as Station 52 from Hopewell were dispatched around 3:15 and entered the garage to extinguish the vehicle. Once extinguished, the vehicle was removed from the garage and minimal extension was found leading to the house. 45 units were secured at 10:58 following an extensive overhaul.
